one Malaysia today

Centuries ago, a successful navigator made a transit stop off the coast of Malaysia. Did he know at that moment that he would fall in love with this sky, nature and azure waters? I hardly knew that this beauty would captivate him forever and make him stay here until the end of his days ...

If you've decided to visit Malaysia, you've definitely made the right choice! This is one of the most developed countries in Southeast Asia and a great place to relax at any time of the year. In addition, you do not need to burden yourself with trips to the embassy, you do not need to pay money for a visa and wait for an answer “they will not give”. Upon arrival, a visa stamp for a month will be delivered to you directly at the airport and free of charge. It is also quite easy to buy an air ticket, because all major foreign airlines fly to the capital of Malaysia.

As soon as your plane lands here, you will immediately feel the aroma of Malaysia - the smell of sweet jungle smell of equatorial heat, tropical greenery and flowers, outlandish fruits and Asian cuisine. And once you feel this aroma, you will always remember it.

Today Malaysia is a country that endlessly attracts numerous visitors with its incredible mixture of cultures and religions, a variety of architecture and an abundance of various exotic dishes. It is home to one of the tallest buildings in the world - the Petronas Twin Towers, the world's fourth tallest television tower, the largest indoor bird park, two wonderful aquariums - and all this is just part of Malaysia's long list of endless achievements and records. Many return to this tropical paradise every year just to re-experience the benevolence and warm hospitality of its inhabitants. After all, here they will treat with understanding the whims of the most discerning guests. However, Malaysia always has something to offer its visitors. The vastness of its reserves stretched from the stony heights of Mount Kinabalu on the island of Borneo to the azure waters, washing its fabulous coastline. Unforgettable diving constantly attracts experienced divers from all over the world, and the coolness of the Cameron Highlands has long been a favorite place not only for Europeans, but also for guests from neighboring Asian countries.

Geographical position
Malaysia is conveniently located in the center of Southeast Asia between 2 and 7 degrees north of the equator. The water area of the South China Sea divides Malaysia into western (peninsular) and eastern (Borneo) parts, the total area of which is 329,750 sq. km. The peninsular part of the country is bordered by Thailand to the north and Singapore to the south. The states of Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo have a border with Indonesia (Kalimantan); and also borders Brunei.

Climate
The country's territory is spread over the equatorial and subequatorial climatic zones. The average annual temperature here reaches 25-28C, and the amount of precipitation ranges from 1500 to 2500 mm. The temperature during the day is 28-32C, and often even higher. Malaysia rarely brings unwanted climatic surprises to its guests and usually enjoys good weather. The rainy seasons here are not distinguished by a sharp change in weather conditions, but are most often expressed by short-term tropical showers, which will not prevent you from relaxing in Malaysia.

The population of Malaysia reaches 27 million. More than 4/5 of them live in the peninsular part. The demographic growth rate is on average 2.5%, and the average life expectancy is about 69 years for men and 74.5 for women.

Administrative division
Malaysia is a federal state with 13 states and 3 federal territories. Nine of the 11 states located in the western (peninsular) part of Malaysia are headed by hereditary rulers.

Political system
Constitutional monarchy with an elected head of state (Yang Diepertuan Agong). The monarch, as well as his deputy, are elected by a council of hereditary rulers from among its members. The supreme ruler performs the representative functions of the head of state.

Religion
All existing religions peacefully coexist in this country, since according to the Constitution freedom of religion is allowed here, but Islam is the official religion.

Tongue
The official language of Malaysia is Malay, but periodicals are published in four languages - Malay, English, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese and South Minh dialects), as well as Tamil, but most of the population is fluent in English. Chinese, Indians and representatives of other nationalities living here, in addition to Malay and English, know their native languages.

Customs
They treat guests loyally and rarely check their luggage. Nevertheless, the country has quite strict laws in relation to narcotic substances, the transportation and sale of which is punishable by death. It is allowed to import duty-free a liter of strong alcoholic beverages, a liter of wine or liqueurs, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 225 g of tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics in the amount not exceeding 200 MYR, souvenirs in the amount not exceeding 200 MYR. The import of goods from Israel, coins or banknotes of Israel, clothing with texts from the Koran printed on it, pornography is prohibited. You must have an official permission to export expensive antiques. When purchasing corals or leather goods of rare or protected animals, we advise you not to throw away the packaging in which they were purchased and the receipt from the store.

Visa regime
Citizens of Russia and other CIS countries do not need a visa if the stay does not exceed 30 days. In this case, you must have a passport, which is valid for at least 6 months.

At the border at the point of arrival, you must fill out an immigration card (it must be kept before leaving the country!), Which indicates: full name, date and place of birth, citizenship, profession, address of permanent residence, passport number and by whom issued , the point of departure from the country, as well as the visa number, by whom it was issued and the date of its issue, if any. There is no visa fee on entry.

Economy
Malaysia can be called one of the most developed "young tigers" in Southeast Asia. Its economic indicators have shown stable growth of its economy for many years in a row. The industrial and agricultural economy of this state is export-oriented, the main articles of which are palm oil, oil, rubber, tin and iron ore, natural gas, manufactory, timber (and products from it), as well as (in small quantities) pepper, tea, etc. cocoa.

Capital of Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857. Since February 1, 1972 it has the status of a city, since 1974 - the status of a federal territory. The city of Putrajaya, located 30 km from Kuala Lumpur, has been the new administrative center of the government since 1999.

3d86d75a22c5ca5ed5842c92d4c5663f Currency exchange
The monetary unit of Malaysia is the Malaysian ringgit. The country has free access to currency exchange and banknotes of all nominations of the most common currencies are accepted. We advise, if possible, to change money at exchange offices in the capital, because it is here that he is the best in the country! Banks are open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm and ATMs are open from 6:00 am to 00:00 am.

Time
It is 4 hours ahead of Moscow time in summer and 5 hours in winter, and is also 8 hours ahead of UTC.

Telephone communications
Three main mobile operators provide roaming services here: Maxis (012, 017), Celcom (019, 013) and Digi (016, 014). The service of roaming negotiations usually costs the citizens of the CIS  4-6  dollars per minute. A local SIM card can be purchased at almost any store that sells mobile phones, and it will cost no more than $ 5. Its balance can be easily replenished in the same stores. IDD cards are also widely used   for international calls from Malaysian phones. The cost of a call to the CIS from such a card usually costs no more than $ 0.5 per minute. Malaysia's code is +6.

Electricity
The voltage is 220V. Most of the country uses three-plug sockets. This problem can be easily solved by asking the service staff in the hotel lobby for an adapter.

Water
The quality of drinking water throughout the country is generally good, but we recommend that you drink either boiled or filtered water.

Tip
Tipping is generally not accepted in Malaysia. In most restaurants and cafes, they are already included in the bill in the form of "10% Service Charge", but if you liked the service, you can leave 5-10RM as a reward. Taxi drivers and receptionists will be grateful if you give them a small tip.

TRANSPORT

Airlines
Several dozen world airlines operate regular flights to Malaysia's international airports: Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuching. The most popular Malaysian airlines are the national airline Malaysia Airlines and the low-cost airline AirAsia. They are actively competing in the market, offering affordable fares and several flights per day to each destination within the country and abroad.

Taxi
Taxis here can be distinguished by their color and scallop on the roof. This is a fairly inexpensive form of transport preferred by most tourists. In Kuala Lumpur, taxi drivers are required to use the meter. Taxi coupons are sold at airports and some other places. There is also a 50% nightly surcharge from 00:00 to 06:00. On the islands and in small towns, prices are negotiable, but taxi drivers are honest enough and adhere to generally accepted prices. There are taxi ranks in almost every shopping center, where they often ask to purchase a ticket from a special counter at a fixed price.

Public transport
On the continental part of the country, there is quite good transport links between all cities. As for domestic transport in cities, here we still recommend a taxi, since with  2-3  passengers the difference between a bus ride and the cost of a taxi is small. In Kuala Lumpur, we recommend taking a ride in the center on the monorail, which offers very beautiful views of the city.

Road transport
Left-hand traffic is very unusual for most motorists from the CIS, but if you still decide to drive here, you can enjoy the beautiful roads of Malaysia, the total length of which is more than 28,000 km. The best country roads are toll roads. The maximum permissible speed is 110 km / h. Renting a mid-range car costs about $ 40 per day.

Railway connections
Connecting major cities on the western and eastern coasts of Malaysia, the rail network extends from neighboring Singapore in the south to Thailand in the north. First and second class passenger trains have air-conditioned compartments for one or two people. Suburban trains (KTM Komuter) run from Port Klang to Seremban (Negri Sembilan State) through several satellite cities around Kuala Lumpur.

Sea traffic
Ferry services connect most of the known islands to the mainland. Despite the modern, highly developed road infrastructure (the Penang Bridge is 13.5 km long), the ferry service between Butterworth and Penang Island is very popular. The centralized extensive sea line of shipping and ferry services between various sea and river ports provides an opportunity for fast and timely delivery of goods and passengers to almost any point on the mainland and islands.

img_trudstud Fauna and flora
Almost three-fifths of the country's territory is covered with tropical forests and jungles, which are considered one of the most ancient on the planet. They are home to many species of exotic animals and plants. Several thousand species of orchids and about 8,000 other species of flowering plants, more than 200 species of palm trees and 500 species of ferns grow here. These rainforests are home to many endangered animal species such as orangutans, several species of gibbons, macaques and lorises. The richness of the avifauna of Malaysia is striking, numbering about 600 species belonging to 70 families of birds with such brightest representatives as peacocks, mynahs, pheasants and divinely beautiful hornbirds.

Local etiquette
For the most part, Malaysians are sympathetic to tourists, but respecting the local hospitality, we advise you to remember some simple rules:
- It is considered indecent to point at people or objects with your index finger. Instead, Malaysians use the thumb with the rest of the fingers bent.
- It should be remembered that Malaysia is a Muslim state and it is not recommended to wear very revealing clothes and swim or sunbathe without bathing suits.
- It is not accepted to shake hands with women who profess Islam.
- When entering a Malaysian home, as well as mosques and temples, you need to take off your shoes.
